Über das Projekt:
We are looking for a senior SQL Server DBA to take over support of a UK manufacturing company’s SQL Server estate: several SQL Server 2022 Standard instances on AWS EC2. Some of the databases support production order processing, so reliability and performance matter.
Ihre Aufgaben:
- Inventory and document the SQL Server estate, including instances, databases, jobs and dependencies
- Perform preventive maintenance, including index and statistics maintenance, integrity checks, backups and restore tests
- Monitor SQL Server instances and SQL Agent jobs, and respond to alerts and incidents
- Tune queries and stored procedures for performance and stability
- Optimize SQL Server instance configuration
- Apply cumulative updates following the client’s change management process
- Review security and audit settings across the SQL Server estate
- Assess high availability and disaster recovery setup and recommend improvements
- Review capacity and plan for growth of the database environment
- Prepare weekly, monthly and quarterly reports in plain English for technical and non-technical stakeholders
Erforderliche Erfahrungen und Qualifikationen:
- 5+ years of experience as a production SQL Server DBA, working with SQL Server 2016–2022
- Hands-on experience with SQL Server Standard Edition and a clear understanding of its limitations
- Hands-on experience automating maintenance with Ola Hallengren scripts or equivalent, including DBCC CHECKDB integrity checks
- Deep understanding of backup and restore strategies, recovery models and restore testing
- Expert-level performance tuning skills, including execution plan analysis, DMVs, Query Store, Extended Events and wait statistics
- Proven ability to analyze and resolve blocking and deadlock issues
- Solid understanding of TempDB and memory configuration
- Strong command of T-SQL, including reading, debugging and optimizing legacy stored procedures, triggers and SQL Agent jobs without documentation
- Hands-on experience running SQL Server on AWS EC2, including backups to S3, EBS storage sizing and basic CloudWatch monitoring
- Solid understanding of what AWS RDS for SQL Server does and does not manage
- Proven ability to perform patching and change management in production environments with uptime constraints
- Proven ability to reverse-engineer undocumented legacy databases and produce documentation along the way
- English – Upper-Intermediate
Wäre ein Plus:
- Background in manufacturing or OT environments, including MES and shop-floor data collection
- Experience with PLC integration, such as Allen-Bradley/Rockwell or Siemens
- Experience with OPC UA/DA protocols
- Experience with Kepware or similar industrial middleware
- Experience with production-line equipment such as roll-forming or panel lines
- Experience integrating SAP with SQL Server via IDocs, RFC/BAPI or SAP PI/PO, staging tables and SSIS or similar tools
- Hands-on experience with SSIS and SSRS administration
- Experience supporting third-party vendor databases where the schema cannot be changed
- Experience automating DBA tasks with PowerShell and dbatools
- Experience with monitoring tools such as Redgate SQL Monitor, SolarWinds DPA or Idera
- Background in managed services, including SLAs and ITIL incident and change processes
- Experience conducting client-facing service reviews
- Microsoft DP-300 certification
- AWS certification
